Here are some tips for getting your mower and lawn ready for the spring.
Lawn mower maintenance-
-Change the sparkplug and sharpen the blades on your mower.
-Change the oil, along with the oil and air filters.
-If you didn’t drain the gas before winter, do so now before adding more gas and running the engine.

Scalping your lawn-
Early in the season it’s good to scalp your lawn to help pick up dead grass along with leaves and other debris that has collected over the winter. This also helps prevent thatch and weed problems throughout the summer and encourages an earlier green-up.
Scalping should only be done in the spring after all chance of frost is gone, and only scalp Bermuda and Zoysia lawns. Lower your mower to the lowest possible setting for scalping. Be careful over bumps and dips in the yard so that your mower blades don’t hit dirt. You’ll want to bag all the clippings or rake them up when you’re done mowing. A second mow might be necessary.
